Atul Subhash, a young engineer in Bengaluru ended his life, leaving behind a heart-wrenching tale of harassment, betrayal, and systematic failure. His wife, also a software engineer with a decent salary, and her family allegedly extorted him for years. To make matters worse, even a judge reportedly asked for a bribe to settle his case.
This is not an isolated or unique case but has become a serious social issue. Countless similar cases likely go unnoticed, buried along with the suicides, or remain untold as many men continue to silently endure such circumstances even today.

Also this isn’t just another “male vs. female” story. It’s a failure of humanity—a reminder of how relationships, laws, and systems meant to protect us can sometimes become the very reason for despair.
Harassment Knows No Gender !
In India, we talk a lot about protecting women—and rightly so—but what about men facing abuse?
- Imagine being harassed at home and feeling trapped because no one believes you.
- Imagine going to the police or courts for help and being treated as the guilty party because you’re a man.
- Imagine losing everything to alimony payments, even when your spouse earns a decent income.
We’ve created laws to protect women from dowry harassment and domestic abuse, but what happens when these laws are misused? Innocent men and their families are dragged into years of legal battles, their lives turned upside down.
Where Did We Go Wrong?
Let’s face it—our system is broken.
- Judicial Bias: Courts often favor women in cases of divorce, alimony, and custody, ignoring the reality that men can also be victims.
- Corruption: When a judge demands a bribe to settle a case, it’s not just a betrayal of trust—it’s a nail in the coffin for justice.
- Lack of Support: Society tells men to “man up” and deal with it, leaving them with nowhere to turn when they feel broken.
The truth is, no one should have to suffer like this—man or woman.
How Relationships Should Be?
Let’s pause and think about what relationships are supposed to look like.
- They’re meant to be about love and respect, not control and manipulation and obviously not to be about Money and wealth !
- They’re supposed to help us grow, not break us down.
- And when things go wrong, they should be handled with dignity, not with blackmail or extortion.
We’ve lost sight of this ideal. Somewhere, relationships have become more about power, money & arrogance and less about partnership. Institution of marriage is breaking down and losing it sanctity.
This Is Not a War of Genders
Whenever stories like this come out, people say, “If it were a woman, everyone would be talking about it. No one cares about men.”
Let’s be clear—this isn’t about men vs. women. It’s about what’s right and wrong and where and how fast are we losing humanity.
- Abuse, harassment, and manipulation are wrong, no matter who the victim is.
- Corruption in our police and judiciary is wrong, no matter who’s seeking justice.
- And ignoring someone’s pain just because they’re a man is just as wrong as ignoring a woman’s.
This is a social issue, not a gender war. Trust, Faith, Love are at stake.
What Needs to Change?

It’s time for us to take a hard look at our society and systems:
- Gender-Neutral Laws: Abuse doesn’t have a gender, and neither should our laws. Both men and women deserve protection and justice.
- Mental Health Support: We need safe spaces where people can talk about their struggles without fear of judgment.
- Judicial Reform: Corruption and bias in the judiciary must be addressed. Justice should be blind, not blindfolded by stereotypes.
- Awareness: Let’s start talking about these issues openly—without shame, without blame, and without making it a competition.
Finally
Being a woman, I cannot even imagine how any woman could show such cruelty, taking someone’s life just for money. And that too, someone with whom she once shared moments of love and cherished a relationship, even if only for name shake.
What I understand from all this is that this isn’t just about one man’s tragic story. It’s about all the people suffering silently because they feel no one will listen. It’s about relationships that have lost their humanity and systems that have lost their fairness.
We need to stop fighting over who has it worse—men or women—and start fighting for a society where no one has to go through this pain. Because when justice fails, it’s not just one person who suffers—it’s all of us.
Let’s bring back empathy, fairness, and humanity—before it’s too late.
